About Osteopathic Medicine
What is a DO?
A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is a physician who completes four years of medical school and hospital based residency training, the same as an MD. DOs have full practice rights in all US states
What’s the difference between a DO and an MD?
Both complete equivalent medical training. Osteopathic medical schools include additional coursework in osteopathic principles and hands on treatment techniques (osteopathic manual medicine), which DOs can choose to use in practice.
What is osteopathic manual medicine (OMM)?
OMM is hands on treatment used by osteopathic physicians to identify and address areas of strain or limited mobility. Techniques are gentle and individualized to your comfort.
How is this different than chiropractic care?
Osteopathic physicians have full medical training and can diagnose and treat the full range of medical conditions. OMM is one tool within a comprehensive medical evaluation. Chiropractors are not physicians and do not have medical training
