Hypermobility & EDS
Gentle, Hands-On Care for Hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Physician-delivered osteopathic treatment in Decatur, GA, adapted to bodies with connective tissue laxity.
Care that respects a hypermobile body
If you have hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), you may have found that some hands-on treatments leave you sore or more unstable. My approach is gentle and subtle. The goal is to reduce strain, support stability, and help your nervous system settle.
I use my hands to sense tissue texture, muscle tension, connective tissue motion, and breathing patterns, and I adjust in real time based on what your body is doing.
How I practice
Consent
Touch happens only with your consent, and you can pause or change anything at any time.
Comfort
Your comfort is our guide. Positioning and pace adjust to you.
Being believed
Your symptoms are real, and what you tell me about your experience matters.
What people with HSD and EDS often come in for
- Chronic pain Persistent pain in the neck, back, or joints, often from the constant work of stabilizing a body with loose connective tissue.
- Headaches Tension in the neck, jaw, and head that contributes to headaches and migraines.
- A nervous system that won’t settle Feeling stuck in a stress response, with poor sleep, fatigue, or sensitivity to touch, light, or sound.
- Dysautonomia Many people with EDS also live with dysautonomia. Treatment can address both. More about dysautonomia care
- Recovery after injury Hypermobile bodies can take longer to settle after a sprain, a fall, or a procedure.
Working alongside your other care
Osteopathic manual medicine works alongside your other doctors and therapies, including physical therapy. It does not replace primary care, and you should have a primary care physician managing your overall health. You don’t need a diagnosis or a referral to come in.
Common questions
Is this kind of care right for me?
This is gentle, hands-on care, and it’s different from most medical visits. It’s a good fit if you’re curious about the process and comfortable with some uncertainty.
Each visit is exploratory. I use my hands to feel where things are tight and where they move easily, and I ask what you notice as we go. Part of the work is learning to notice what’s happening in yourself, like where you hold tension or what helps you settle. That awareness is a big part of what makes treatment work, and it builds over time.
I can’t tell you ahead of time how many visits you’ll need, and changes are often subtle at first. This isn’t something I do to you. We work on it together. Not sure it’s for you? Start with a free 15 minute call.
During treatment I often work quietly, because it helps both of us notice what’s changing. I check in as we go, and you can ask a question or pause at any time. At the end, I ask what you noticed. The focus is on your experience, not on what I find.
Who treats hypermobility and EDS in Atlanta?
I do. I’m an osteopathic physician in Decatur, just outside Atlanta, and many of my patients have hypermobile EDS or hypermobility spectrum disorder. I see adults, and you don’t need a referral.
Can osteopathic treatment help with EDS?
It can help with the pain, tension and fatigue that often come with EDS. Treatment is gentle and hands-on. I work slowly to reduce strain, support stability and help your nervous system settle. It doesn’t change the connective tissue itself, and it works best alongside your other care.
Is hands-on treatment safe if my joints are loose?
Yes, when it’s done gently. I never push joints past their range. You can pause or change anything at any time, and I check in as we go.
Do I need an EDS diagnosis to come in?
No. Many people come in still working on a diagnosis. I’m glad to work alongside your other doctors and physical therapists.
Do you diagnose EDS?
No. I don’t make EDS diagnoses. For an evaluation, a geneticist or an EDS-informed physician is the place to start. You don’t need a diagnosis to see me, and you’re welcome to come in while you’re working on one.
Do you offer genetic testing?
No. Genetic testing is done through a geneticist or genetic counselor.
